We are happy to announce that on Monday, April 7th, we will begin composting food waste and other organic compostables like napkins. We recognize the impacts associated with our operations and are making a conscious effort to reduce them and intend to do our part in leaving the world a better place for future generations.
Dante’s is among the first to commercially partner with Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority.
The average US. Household generates 650 lbs. of compostable materials each year.
Over 60 percent of what we put in our landfills is organic waste, such as food scraps, yard trimmings, and paper, much of which could be recycled by composting.
More food reaches landfills and incinerators than any other single material in municipal solid waste (MSW). In 2012 alone, more than 36 million tons of food waste was generated, with only five percent diverted from landfills and incinerators for composting.
