Dante’s sustainability means recognizing the impacts associated with our operations and making a conscious effort to reduce them. We are committed to leaving the smallest footprint possible without jeopardizing our high standards for quality. We strive to maintain a healthy balance between environmental stewardship, social equity, and economic stability. By engaging in an active sustainability program, we intend to leave a better world for future generations.
WHAT WE DO
Dante’s Restaurants and Nightlife works to continually lesson our waste impact, increase energy and water efficiency, educate, and lead by example to inspire change. We work hard to divert solid waste from the landfill, recovering a high percentage of our total solid waste through reuse, recycling or composting.
Our sustainability program extends to every facet of our business from the “front of house” to “back of house” in each of our locations and our corporate office. We are continually looking for opportunities to reduce our impact on the environment while providing our customers with a high-quality experience at our locations.
Composting UPDATE 2/01/16
We were excited to learn that in 2015 we diverted 23.66 TONS of organic material from landfills. That’s the weight of 12 cars… woo hoo! We’re thrilled to continue to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by these diversions and returning organics back to mother nature.
Composting UPDATE 4/30/14
We are thrilled to have received an update from the State College Public Works and Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority on our composting program. Just three short weeks into our composting program we’ve had 29 food waste carts picked up. The weight of which was 2,936 lbs!! According to Daren Depto of the CCRRA…. “A ton and a half in only a few weeks is quite impressive!” We’re pleased and proud our management teams and staff that have worked hard to reduce our impact!
On April 7, 2014 we were excited to become a “beta tester” for the Centre County Recycling & Refuse Authority as they look to further develop a commercial composting program. The Deli Restaurant, Z Bar, Inferno Brick Oven & Bar, bar bleu and The Saloon are among the first restaurants in our region to carry out a composting program of this size. We are happy to partner with State College Borough Public Works and Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority to develop this program.
Our motivation to implement such a large composting project was to improve environmental health by reducing landfill contribution, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, sustaining natural resources, and preventing the release of harmful chemicals into land, water, and air systems.
Our compost is hauled to the Centre Region composting facility where it will be composted and go on to fertilize projects for PennDOT and Centre Region landscaping and gardens. It is even available at no charge to local residents.
We are now in the process of compiling information and writing drafts for our 2014 Sustainability Report. The report will detail all of our current efforts as well as an outline of goals of what we’ll be working on over the next two years. The report is targeted to be completed in Q2 of 2014… stay tuned!

Where Do We Go From Here?
We aspire to provide leadership and support to reduce our environmental footprint. We will take steps to ensure that future product purchases, business practices, and policy decisions at our locations minimizes Dante’s impact on natural resources and the environment. We will work better to develop programs and communicate our commitment to employees, educate, and inspire them into action. Additionally, we’ll work to better educate our customers on our practices and seek support from them. We look forward to engaging with our local community, organizations and partners that are aligned with our sustainability initiative. Our company will provide preferential treatment to suppliers that share environmental values while remaining fiscally responsible to our business and customers. We are excited to continue our efforts as we grow and learn in our search for even more ways to leave a better world for future generations.
