Welcome to Alla Spina at HiWay Downtown.  A worthy destination inspired by our passion for knowledge, skill, and small-batch artisan goods.  Alla Spina (that’s Italian for “on tap”) is a humble neighborhood joint with design cues from the industrial revolution that provides a comfortable post for a few drinks, food and good-times.

We strive to prepare and present you with drink and foodstuff that is properly cared for and skillfully prepared.  We’ve considered each and every detail in the products we create and present.

Beginning with the producer, we consider how they make their products and, of course, their quality.  We love local, natural, sustainable and organic so much we not only practice this ourselves, but seek out and purchase from those who are like-minded as well.

Next, we choose and implement equipment that is used to correctly store and authentically prepare the food, beer, wine, soda, coffee and classic cocktails on our menu.

Finally, the keys in our logo represent our constant thirst for knowledge, techniques and our fondness of the stories and history behind food, spirits, wine, ales and lagers.  We’re constantly educating ourselves on how to prepare and present these artisan made plates and drinks to you.

Beer is our muse and we love her dearly…. 40 drafts and 3 hand-pumped cask ales back up a bottle list of over 200 selections!

Drafts and bottles are served in the correct glass at the correct temperature just as they are meant to be. Bottles are stored according to style in three independent beer coolers each set at the proper temperature setting for the styles it contains. Each faucet of draft beer is poured at the proper temperature and gas blend for the style of beer that is tapped. No need to put your hands on the glass to warm up your stout or barleywine here, we pay attention to detail and present each beer as the brewer intended.

A large cellar-temperature controlled aging cave has been managed by our Beer Director since 2009 with a large number of bottles and kegs just waiting to reach their peak and see the light of day.  Look for these selections on our vintage section of the menu or at special tasting events.

Craft Kitchen

Lunch, dinner, or a little snack in-between… we’ve got you covered.  Every dish 100% made in-house from scratch, that’s how we roll.  Alla Spina celebrates our Italian heritage with menu selections inspired by favorites from our living family and ancestors. A seasonally inspired menu looks to what is current and fresh.  We choose our ingredients from small-batch and artisan producers just as we do at the bar.

Salumi & formaggi is a house specialty with a rotating selection chosen by our two Murry’s Cheese U® educated cheese mongers Jennifer Zangrilli and J.P. Mills. Our cured meats are cut using a manually-operated hand-spun Italian flywheel slicer to ensure precise cuts and quality textures.

You’ll find many small plates designed to share with friends.  Soups made fresh and Sandwiches that are built and held together with bread that’s fresh-baked every morning in our very own bakery. Our salads reflect the seasonality harvest from our local greenhouses and fields with dressings made in-house.  Artisan pizza pies round out
